There are some lovely new fuchsias this year. Our thanks to the hybridisers
for the opportunity to release them.
Deborah Jane (Wilkinson)
Medium single with a short pale pink tube and white upturned sepals, flushed
pale pink at base. Darker in good light. The corolla is pale lilac with a pink
base. Good for showing or a quarter standard.
Helen
Lang (Chatters 2008) A smallish single. Short tube and slightly
upswept sepals are bright red. The corolla is deep red with a purplish tinge.
Needs hard pinching to make a show plant.
Joanne
McDonald (Storey 2008) Erect flowered single. Short tube is
pale red. The upswept sepals, on maturity hiding the tube, are white, flushed
red at base and tipped green. The petals are white shading to purple at the
edge. Hardy for several years in our garden growing about 9" tall. Will also do
well in the 9F class.
Lilian
May (Broughton 2008) A medium single. Short tube is red. Sepals are half up
and reflex, white flushed red at base and edged in red. Petals are purple with a
pink base. Does best when pinched hard in the early stages of growth.
Tinytobes
(Nicholls 2008) Smallish single with a creamy thin tube. Upturned sepals are
white edged pink. Petals are a vivid porcelain blue and mature to a pinkish
lilac. Growth is self branching, forming a superb shape for the showbench. Did
well at the BFS Midland show.
Wendy
Hebdon (Bielby 2008) A semi double with many sub petals. The medium tube is
creamy white and the slightly upswept sepals similar. Petals are peachy pink,
paler in the centre. Responds well to pinching and produces very many flowers.
Lax growth.
Yvonne (Parkes 2008) Largish double. Tub and
upswept sepals are beetroot red. Very full corolla opens aubergine maturing to
beetroot with a pink flush to the base. Is thought to be hardy.
